The Kano State government has disbursed N7.4 million to families of victims of the 2025 Uromi killings in Edo State, fulfilling a pledge made by Governor Abba Yusuf.
The donation was presented on Friday at the palace of the Hakimin Bunkure in Bunkure Local Government Area of the state.
Representing the governor, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, said 16 families of those killed received N300,000 each, while 13 survivors were given N200,000 each, alongside two bags of rice per beneficiary.
Waiya said the intervention was in fulfilment of the governor’s promise during a condolence visit to the community after the incident.
He noted that the governor had initially believed the pledge had been redeemed but ordered immediate action upon discovering the delay.
“We are here to redeem the pledge made by His Excellency when he visited and sympathised with the families of the victims,” he said.

The commissioner described the incident, which claimed 16 lives and left 13 others injured, as a tragic loss, noting that the victims were attacked by a mob while returning to the North.
He added that efforts were ongoing to ensure compensation promised by the Edo State government is paid, revealing that a dedicated account had been opened for the victims.
Waiya urged the families to remain patient, expressing optimism that the compensation would be released soon.
In his remarks, the Hakimin Bunkure, Aminu Umar, commended the state government for the support and prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
The victims, said to be hunters from Kano State, were reportedly attacked by a vigilante group in Uromi, Edo State, after being mistaken for kidnappers while travelling home for Sallah.
