The Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources, Umar Doguwa, has resigned.
His resignation was disclosed in a statement issued by the Director of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Kano, Sanusi Bature.
The statement said Governor Abba Yusuf has accepted the resignation, which took effect from Monday, March 2, 2026.
According to Bature, Doguwa formally tendered his resignation on Monday, bringing to an end his tenure at the Ministry of Water Resources, where he served for about one year following his redeployment from the Ministry of Education.
He quoted Gov. Yusuf as expressing appreciation to the former commissioner for his commitment, loyalty, and dedicated service to the people of the state.
He recalled that Doguwa had earlier served as commissioner for education, where he played a key role in advancing educational reforms, including the declaration of a state of emergency in the sector, before his transfer to the water resources ministry.

According to the governor, Doguwa’s stewardship in the water sector recorded significant milestones, particularly in the rehabilitation of water facilities and the expansion of potable water supply to several communities across the state.
He noted that the former commissioner’s leadership strengthened institutional capacity within the ministry and enhanced service delivery in line with the administration’s vision of ensuring sustainable access to water for residents.
Describing Doguwa as a disciplined and hardworking public servant, Gov. Yusuf said his contributions would remain part of the administration’s achievements.
The governor wished him success in his future endeavours and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining progress in the water sector and ensuring uninterrupted water supply across the state.
Meanwhile, the governor has directed the Commissioner for Education, Ali Makoda, to oversee the Ministry of Water Resources pending the appointment or redeployment of a substantive commissioner.
