Kano has commenced free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) training for about 10,000 indigent students registered for the 2025 examination across the state’s 44 local government areas.
Launching the training programme at the Murtala Muhammad Library Computer Center, Kano, the Commissioner of Education, Ali Makoda disclosed that the programme is part of the state government’s efforts to assist students in the state to obtain admission into tertiary institutions.
According to him, the majority of the over 5,000 students who sat for the UTME examination in 2024 secured admission into various institutions in and outside the state.
He disclosed that students undergoing the training will be served food and given N1,000 allowance each as transport fare from the start of the training programme until April 19, 2025, when the training will end.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress of the training, Makoda assured the students of the state government’s continued support in providing access to quality education, urging them to pay attention to what they will be taught in order to perform excellently during the UTME examination.

Earlier, Director of the Kano Educational Resource Department (KERD), Hajiya Rabi Hussain, explained that the training programme is being organised in 21 centers across the state.
She thanked the state governor for the support given to the department, which had significantly improved the working conditions at the department.
In a similar development, the state government has procured and distributed 120,000 cartons of chalk to public schools across the state to aid effective learning and teaching.
Launching the distribution exercise on at the premises of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the education commissioner said the provision of the chalks is in line with government’s commitment of improving teaching and learning in public schools to achieve quality education.
