An act of integrity was demonstrated by a Kano State civil servant, Aminu Umar Kofar Mazugal, after rejecting a reward for returning a bag containing US dollars amounting to over N40 million to its rightful owner at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in Kano.
The bag was accidentally left in the hospital’s parking lot close to a mosque on Wednesday by Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, who was the owner of the money.
Mohammed claimed that after a brief period of sitting close to the mosque, he hurried to catch a flight and forgot the bag.
The bag was found by hospital staff, Malam Aminu, who lives in the Dala Local Government Area, while he and his coworkers were cleaning the pavements.

He stated that he quickly secured the luggage while waiting for its owner’s return. Umar said that around an hour after discovering the bag, the owner returned and described it, following which he swiftly handed it back to him.
He stated further that the owner of the bag offered him a reward, which he declined, but he gave him his phone contact and the bag owner promised to call him when he returned from abroad.
The hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr. Aminu Imam Yola, verified the incident and said that Aminu’s name had been submitted for special recognition by the hospital’s administration to the Kano State Hospitals Administration Board.
