The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Rano Local Government Area, Muhammad Naziru, for three months over alleged cases of financial misappropriation.
Naziru was suspended after the adoption of a report presented by the House Committee on Public Petition chaired by the Majority Leader, Husseini Lawan, during Wednesday’s plenary, presided over by the Speaker Jibril Falgore.
Presenting the report before the House, Lawan said the probe was necessitated following the submission of petitions by councilors of the local government area.
He explained that the petitioners accused the chairman of financial misappropriation, illegal sale of shops, and fund diversion among other allegations.
While noting that the local government chairman after appearing before the House committee, denied the allegations, he said the committee applied the provision of Section 125 of the 1999 Constitution, and Section 55 (paragraph 1–6) of the Kano State Local Government Law on the matter.
He further pointed out that the provision recommends the House to suspends the chairman for three months to allow for full investigation into the matter, while allowing the vice chairman to serve in acting capacity as the local government chairman.

In a related development, the House also approved the appointment of Mr. Saidu Yahya as the substantive chairman of the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCAC) to serve for five years.
Presenting a report of the House Public Petition Committee for screening of the nominee as requested by Governor Abba Yusuf, the Majority leader of the House, said Yahaya, has over 18 years experience in corruption investigation and has attended numerous trainings at reputable institutions.
He said after reviewing his qualifications and experience, the committee found him suitable for the position.
After careful deliberations, the House adopted the committee’s recommendations of suspending the local government chairman and approving Yahya’s appointment.
