The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the Kano State Social Protection Agency Bill, 2025, into law.
The bill was passed into law after it was considered in the committee of the whole, and read the third time during Wednesday’s plenary, presided over by Speaker Ismail Falgore.
Briefing journalists on the newly passed bill, Majority Leader of the House, Lawan Husseini, explained that when signed into law, the agency will provide aid to the most vulnerable, the less privileged, aged people and also render assistance to citizens in the areas of health, education and job creation.
He noted that the agency will be headed by a director general, who is experienced in rendering social services, and a board of trustees with representation from the humanitarian, budget and planning, justice and youth ministry, as well as representatives of development partners.
However, the legislator pointed out that the agency will impact the lives of citizens, and reduce the rate at which people go on air soliciting for financial assistance to cater for their immediate needs.
