The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the Kano State Forensic Laboratory Bill, 2025, into law.
The bill was passed after the House considered clauses (1-30) in the Committee of the Whole, and the third reading of the bill by the Clerk of the House, Bashir Diso, during Tuesday’s plenary, presided over by the Speaker Ismail Falgore.
According to the House, the laboratory when established, will carry out forensic examination of documents, materials, equipments, impressions, and other related subjects.
Meanwhile after plenary, the House Majority Leader, Lawan Husseini, briefed journalists about the new bill, saying the laboratory will help in finding evidence, and proof, especially documented evidence, such as school certificates, signatures and wills.
He said the forensic laboratory will also help in tackling the genuity of documents, especially as a result of arising conflicts from the issuance of land documents, issued to more than one person.

“There are other instances where a court may seek to know the truth of a document, and it can refer it to the forensic expert to give their advice,” he added.
Husseini also highlighted that, there are penalties ranging from imprisonment, and fines or both, when anyone is found wanting of forgery discovered from any forensic outcome.
He further noted that the organisation will be headed, by a director general, and will operate directly under the state attorney general with members from the ministry of land and physical planning, ministry of education, science and technology, among others.
