Kano State’s 2025 budget has received a massive increase as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf moves to secure legislative approval for a supplementary appropriation of ₦169.52 billion, pushing the total spending plan to an unprecedented ₦889.28 billion from the initially approved ₦719.76 billion.

The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, during a press briefing on Friday following the 30th Executive Council meeting. He revealed that the proposed supplementary budget has been forwarded to the Kano State House of Assembly for urgent consideration and passage.

According to Waiya, the fresh injection of funds is aimed at strengthening the government’s ability to deliver on its core mandates, address emerging obligations, and accelerate key developmental projects across the state.

Highlighting the allocations, the commissioner disclosed that ₦14.83 billion has been approved for a wave of infrastructure and service delivery projects. The Ministry of Works will receive ₦11.8 billion for the conversion of the Gaya Orphanage Home into a Female Drugs Reformatory Institute, as well as the construction of a modern Transit Centre in Gaya Local Government Area, valued at ₦1.38 billion. Additional works include the re-award of the Jaba-Gayawa and Dakata-Yadakunya road projects, along with a new road linking Badgery to Yusuf Road, amounting to ₦10.42 billion.

In the Ministry of Lands, ₦882.97 million has been allocated for the printing of security documents and expansion works, while the health sector will get ₦1.66 billion for the renovation and rehabilitation of healthcare facilities, installation of solar power systems, and the supply of essential drugs and consumables to health centres statewide.

The Ministry of Water Resources will receive another ₦14.83 billion to settle outstanding bills for diesel and PMS supply as of February 2025. Similarly, the Ministry for Rural and Community Development has been allocated ₦169.63 million for the rehabilitation of five mini earth dams in five local government areas.

Waiya urged citizens to actively monitor the execution of the projects, stressing that Governor Yusuf’s administration remains committed to rebuilding the state and delivering tangible dividends of democracy to the people of Kano.

This budget expansion, one of the largest in the state’s history, signals an aggressive push by the government to fast-track development, improve infrastructure, and enhance public services ahead of critical political and economic milestones in 2025.
