Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has approved the recruitment of 1,800 health workers to address staffing shortages across all Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities in the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Umma Ahmad, announced the development in a statement on Thursday, emphasizing that the recruitment aims to strengthen Kaduna’s position as a leader in PHC services.
According to her, the initiative will help bridge human resource gaps in healthcare facilities, significantly reducing maternal and child mortality while enhancing the overall well-being of Kaduna residents.
Ahmad also highlighted ongoing efforts to revitalize 255 PHC facilities, equip them with state-of-the-art medical tools, and ensure the steady supply of essential drugs across the state. She further revealed that all 255 PHCs will be remodeled and upgraded to Level 2 status as part of Governor Sani’s comprehensive health sector reform.

“The upgraded facilities will be equipped to manage uncomplicated diabetes and hypertension, provide resuscitation for severe asthma, assist with deliveries, and offer other essential healthcare services,” she stated.
She noted that since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Governor Sani has prioritized the health sector, a commitment reflected in the numerous awards his administration has received.
“The governor’s efforts have been recognized with 10 national and international awards, including the prestigious Excellence Award from the International Supply Chain Education Alliance (ISCEA),” Ahmad added.
The commissioner reaffirmed that under the current administration, quality healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental human right. She also cited Kaduna’s ranking as the best-performing state in Primary Health Care in the North West zone, an achievement recognized through the PHC Leadership Challenge award.
