His actions went against the Central Bank of Nigeria’s rules that protect the Naira from abuse and destruction.
The court charged him with a single count, stating that he unlawfully damaged Naira by stepping on the banknotes while creating a social media video. Kabir admitted to the charge when it was presented to him, leading the prosecutor, M.U. Gadaka, to ask the court to impose a suitable punishment.
Justice Aikawa ultimately sentenced Muhammad Kabir to six months in prison or a fine of 300,000 Naira, payable to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
