Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South Senatorial District, Tuesday, 11 March, 2025, made a case for the restoration of the defunct Isoko North constituency II on the floor of the Senate.
The Delta South senator while supporting the motion moved by his distinguished colleague from Delta North, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, to reinstate the Aniocha North constituency II following the Supreme Court judgement, noted that similar challenges also bedeviled some constituencies in Delta State.
“I want to throw more light on what my distinguished colleague Ned Nwoko is talking about. We have a similar situation in Isoko North local government.”
According to Sen Joel-Onowakpo, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, after the enactment of the 1999 constitution, some constituencies were deleted, including Isoko North state constituency II which has deprived the people fair opportunities as other local governments with multiple constituencies.

“There were constituencies but after the 1999 constitution those constituencies were removed so we are in court to reinstate such constituencies that have deprived our people the opportunity like every other constituency or local government that have two or three constituencies.”
The Senate Local Content Chair emphasised that the deprived Isoko North local government in all ramifications, has more attributes that precipitates the creation of more constituencies compared to most local government areas with multiple constituencies.
“For my own particular case Isoko North, we have only one state constituency in Isoko North which is bigger than most local governments which have two or three constituencies.”
He concluded by affirming that legal action is underway and that the population figures support the demand for the constituency’s restoration.
