Nigeria midfielder Joel Obi has signed for Serie B club Reggina on a free transfer after his contract with Salernitana ended last season.
Obi, who has plied his career in Italy, with Castello Calcio as his foundation, joined Salernitana from Chievo Verona and helped coach Fabrizio Castori’s campaign to retain the Garnets Italy’s topflight division status.
The former Inter Milan midfielder made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2011 during an international friendly match against Sierra Leone that Nigeria won 2-1. The Trumpet Gathered
The 31-year-old, who earned his debut under coach Samson Siasia, a former Super Eagles coach, went on to feature in 11 friendly matches and 5 times in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the national side.

Last season, Obi featured 23 times for Filippo Inzaghi’s side in all season and provided the assist for Simy’s opener against Spezia in a Serie A clash at Alberto Picco stadium.
According to Reggina, the midfielder who has played 295 matches in his club career, netting 23 times, brings a wealth of Serie A experience to the Italian second-tier division club.
Reportedly, Obi signed a two-year contract with the Amaranth that will keep him at Stadio Oreste Granillo until 2024.
