Comedian, R&B singer, and actor Jamie Foxx received the award from Stevie Wonder and was moved as he recalled his stroke and hospitalization while the “In Memoriam” segment played, realizing that just two years prior, he had come close to death.
He expressed, “I thought, that could have been me. I don’t understand why I had to go through this, but I’m not going to waste my second chance.”
Foxx shared the promise he made to God during his recovery, stating, “I vowed that whatever reason this happened to me, I would do right moving forward.”
He acknowledged his roots and expressed gratitude to the black community for their support throughout his journey, particularly during his comeback Netflix special, “Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…”
With deep appreciation, he said, “You all held me up, and I don’t want to make this entire speech about that, but you can’t experience something like this without sharing your testimony.”
As the audience became increasingly emotional, the Oscar-winning actor thanked his daughters, who provided him with strength during his health challenges.
He specifically mentioned his then-14-year-old daughter Anelise, who snuck into his hospital room to play guitar for him when his condition was critical, noting that his health improved while she played, saying, “I realized God was in her guitar.”

With a trembling voice, he also acknowledged his older daughter, Corinne, for her unwavering support, saying, “you’ve always taken a backseat, but when it mattered, you took the wheel.”
Jamie was hospitalized in April 2023 due to a serious and mysterious illness, later revealing he had suffered a brain bleed and a stroke during his Netflix special, which premiered in December 2024.
Despite his medical emergency occurring while filming “Back in Action” with Cameron Diaz, he managed to complete his scenes after recovering, with the film debuting in January of this year.
It seems Jamie is fully back in action and remains grateful for every moment he has.
