The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has disowned the admission of candidates into the Law Faculty of Lead City University, stating that the programme remains under a five-year suspension.
In a statement addressing the issue, the examination body explained that the admissions in question were not processed through the Central Admissions Processing System, the only approved platform for tertiary institution admissions in Nigeria.
JAMB said it had received numerous complaints from members of the public who accused the board of negligence for allegedly allowing candidates to gain admission into the university’s law programme despite the ongoing suspension.
Responding to the allegations, the board described the development as unfortunate and clarified that it had no involvement in the admissions. It reiterated that any admission carried out outside the CAPS platform is considered illegal and invalid under Nigeria’s higher education admission guidelines.

The board therefore advised prospective students and parents to exercise caution when accepting admission offers from tertiary institutions. It urged candidates to confirm their admission status through the official JAMB CAPS portal before proceeding with registration or payment of fees.
Education stakeholders say the warning is aimed at protecting candidates from fraudulent or irregular admission processes and reinforcing the role of CAPS as the official system for managing university admissions across Nigeria.
The development has raised fresh concerns about compliance with admission regulations among tertiary institutions and highlights the importance of transparency in Nigeria’s university admission process.
