It was an exhilarating conclusion to the Governor’s Cup in Adamawa, featuring a showdown between the teams of Jada Local Government and Yola North Local Government.
Among the distinguished guests present at the event was the State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
He extended his congratulations to the Jada Local Government team for clinching the 2025 Governor’s Cup title via a penalty shootout that ended in a 4-2 victory over Yola North.
The much-anticipated final match of the Governor’s Cup took place at the football fields of the Federal College of Education, attracting government representatives, prominent figures, and supporters of the two outstanding teams from Yola North and Jada LGAs.
Commencing in February, the tournament provided all 21 LGAs in the state an opportunity to demonstrate their skills while being encouraged by their fans, all enthusiastic about their local squads aiming to secure the esteemed trophy.
In the end, following a commendable exhibition of talent from all the teams involved, Lamurde managed to achieve 3rd place.
The championship clash between Yola North and Jada ended in a gripping goalless stalemate after 90 minutes, with Jada emerging victorious 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

Fintiri, who attended the showdown at the FCE football venue with other government officials, expressed his delight at the sportsmanship exhibited by players from both teams as well as the officials.
In praising the teams and match officials for facilitating an exciting and smooth game over the course of 90 minutes, Fintiri declared a financial contribution of one million Naira to each of the 21 Local Government football teams.
He encouraged them to always prepare well in advance of the tournament.
He emphasized that, given the remarkable talent present, his administration will continue to support and promote sporting events among youths to help them reach their full potential.
According to him, this was clear as the administration is progressing towards completing a top-tier stadium in the state capital, confirming that the finale of the upcoming edition of the Governor’s cup will be hosted at this new stadium facility.
He disclosed that the administration has successfully constructed three quality football pitches in each of the three geopolitical regions of the state. He also mentioned that there are plans in motion to facilitate similar advancements across 21 local government areas within the state.
He emphasized that the government is committed to doing everything necessary to promote talented youth, ensuring they gain recognition not just locally but also on national and global levels.
Additionally, he indicated that the government aims to enhance its efforts to promote not just football but all sports activities, providing individuals with a platform to display their abilities.
