The Iyede-Ame Community in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State has rejected the resolutions reached at the peace -building and conflict resolution meeting convened by the Ndokwa East Local Government Council over the proposed entry of SEEPCO into the community.
The position of the community was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of its annual general conference held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Iyede-Ame Community Town Hall.
According to the communiqué, the community faulted several clauses of the resolutions adopted at the December 2, 2025 peace meeting held at Aboh, describing them as unconstitutional and inconsistent with the community’s leadership structure.
The conference reaffirmed that Iyede-Ame is not factionalised and has only one duly elected and legally recognised President-General, Chief Oke Okudhuru Prince, in line with the 2018 constitution of the community as amended.
It stressed that the president-general remains the sole lawful representative of the community in all matters affecting its affairs.
Specifically, the community rejected Clause 1 of the peace meeting resolutions, which directed that the two president-generals “hands off” matters concerning SEEPCO, arguing that no committee or local government authority has the power to divest a duly elected president-general of his functions except by an order of a court of competent jurisdiction.
The communiqué also rejected Clauses 2 and 3, which mandated the selection of 10 representatives to negotiate with SEEPCO on behalf of the families.
The community said the clauses amounts to an unlawful substitution of community leadership and an usurpation of the powers of the president-general.
On Clause 4, which upheld previous agreements with SEEPCO, the conference resolved that any agreement allegedly entered into under the administration of Mr. Christopher Odegba lacked legitimacy and wasn’t binding on the community.

It insisted that such agreements must be cancelled and renegotiated before any oil and gas exploration activities can be considered on Iyede-Ame land.
While acknowledging Clause 5 of the resolutions, which recognised Chief Oke Okudhuru Prince as president-general pending the outcome of any court action, the community noted that the clause was contradictory, as other provisions of the same resolutions sought to strip the office of its constitutional powers.
Consequently, the community formally rejected Clauses 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the December 2 resolutions and called for their immediate withdrawal or amendment to reflect the lawful authority of the president-general in all engagements involving the community, including dealings with SEEPCO.
The communiqué, signed by Chief Oke Okudhuru Prince, President-General of Iyede-Ame Community, and the Secretary-General, Justus O. Akpokorie, and all community leaders and stakeholders, reaffirmed the community’s commitment to peace, dialogue and the rule of law, while warning that it would seek legal redress if the disputed clauses were enforced.
