Senate President Godswill Akpabio has vehemently denied allegations of sexual harassment leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing them as baseless and urging Nigerians not to rush to judgment. Speaking on the floor of the Senate after receiving the petition from Senator Natasha, Akpabio stated that he has been inundated with calls since February 28, 2025, over the allegations circulating on social media and television.
Addressing the matter, Akpabio emphasized that while the case is already in court, he felt compelled to publicly clear his name. “At no time did I ever attempt any sexual harassment on the distinguished senator, Natasha, or any other woman for that matter,” he declared. He highlighted his upbringing, crediting his late mother, a single parent who raised him and his siblings under difficult circumstances before her passing in the year 2000, for instilling in him deep respect for women.

The Senate President further pointed to his track record as a leader who has always championed gender inclusivity. “Even as a state governor, I was awarded various recognitions, including being named the most gender-friendly governor in Nigeria during my tenure from 2007 to 2015,” he said. Akpabio also noted that as a father of four daughters, he holds women in the highest regard and would never engage in any form of harassment.
Calling for patience and due process, he urged Nigerians, particularly the media and social media commentators, to await the court’s decision rather than jumping to conclusions based on mere allegations. He expressed gratitude for the support and solidarity he has received from colleagues and well-wishers, affirming his faith that justice will prevail.
Akpabio thereafter called on the Senate to move forward with its legislative duties.
