The Itsekiri people of Delta State have threatened fire and brimstone over the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) delineation of wards carried out in Warri South, Warri North and Warri South West Local Government Areas.
They rejected the new wards and polling units, adding it was a ploy to reduce the voting powers of the Itsekiris.
Addressing reporters in Asaba, Secretary of Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, Sir Sunny Mene, argued that Itsekiris with the highest population in the three mentioned local government areas were given fewer wards compared to the Urhobos, adding that it was a deliberate effort by INEC to deny the Itsekiri political representation at all levels.
In Warri South, Mene said the Itsekiris have 88,390 voters with 174 units, yet the Urhobos with 38,800 voters with 72 units got 10 wards against the Itsekiris eight wards.
