“It’s time for new leadership in Iran,” Trump declares, says Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s reign is over
In a White House address on Saturday, President Donald Trump called for an end to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s 37-year rule, stating “it’s time to look for new leadership in Iran.”
This statement came as protests against the regime appeared to be diminishing.
Trump’s remarks followed a period of unrest in which thousands of protesters were reportedly killed over the past three weeks, leading him to threaten military intervention multiple times.
He urged Iranians to continue their protests and “take over institutions,” asserting that “help is on its way.”
However, the following day, Trump shifted his stance, claiming he had received information that the violence had ceased.
When asked about the potential scale of a U.S. military operation in Iran, he remarked, “The best decision he ever made was not hanging more than 800 people two days ago.”
Trump’s comments were made shortly after Khamenei’s social media account posted a series of accusatory messages directed at him, blaming the U.S. president for the violence and turmoil in Iran.
Khamenei stated: “We find the US President guilty due to the casualties, damages, and slander he inflicted upon the Iranian nation,” and criticized Trump for misrepresenting violent groups as representatives of the Iranian people.
In response, Trump asserted that Iran’s leaders rely on oppression and violence to maintain control.
He stated that “what he is guilty of, as the leader of a country, is the complete destruction of the country and the use of violence at unprecedented levels.”

He emphasized that true leadership should focus on effectively running the country rather than resorting to mass killings to maintain power.
“Leadership is about respect, not fear and death,” he added.
This exchange highlights the escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran during a precarious time for the region, especially following Khamenei’s recent claim that “the Iranian nation has defeated America.”
Trump further criticized Khamenei and Iran’s governance, calling him “a sick man who should run his country properly and stop killing people,” and described Iran as “the worst place to live anywhere in the world because of poor leadership.”
Iranian officials have not yet responded to requests for comment.
