The Ebonyi State Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, Dr. Ngozi Obichukwu has dismissed reports alleging that the Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Onueke in Ezza South Local Government Area, is to be converted into an event centre.
She described the reports as unfounded and as emanating from fake news purveyors who want to pull down the state government.
Obichukwu emphasised that the airport was never used as an event centre and therefore the reports were baseless and false, warning fake news paddlers in the state to desist from portraying the international airport in bad light.
She called on the state’s citizens and intending users of the airport, to ignore the fake news, asserting that it is the handiwork of mischief- makers who are bent on tarnishing the good work of the state government with intent to satisfy their paymasters.

The commissioner emphasised that the purpose of holding the flag -off ceremony for beneficiaries of the 2024/ 2025 state scholarship scheme at the airport by Governor Francis Nwifuru, was to enable the overseas scholarship students to board their flight immediately, insisting that there is no way the flag off can take place in a different venue and it won’t affect the students scheduled flight.
She said: “The Chuba Okadigbo International Airport has since December recorded over 22 flight operations and as I speak with you, we have continued to be on air and we can never stop.
“And so, those fake news purveyors who alleged that our airport was converted into an event centre are enemies of the state and they darken counsel without knowledge.”
Obichukwu urged prominent stakeholders in the South East to come to the airport to board their flights, assuring them of adequate safety of their lives and properties.
