Grammy-nominated artist and son of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Seun Kuti has declared that it is disrespectful to label Afrobeats singer Wizkid as a modern-day version of his father.
During a recent Instagram livestream, Kuti addressed Wizkid’s fans, known as Wizkid FC, urging them to refrain from comparing the “Ojuelegba” artist to the late Afrobeat icon.
He emphasized that such comparisons undermine Fela’s legacy.
“Wizkid FC, keep Fela’s name out of your conversations. You claim your artist is the new Fela, but when you realize that he can’t fill those shoes, and people like me call you out on it, it truly is an insult to compare Wizkid to Fela.”
“You show a lack of respect. I appreciate defiance, but your disrespect stems from ignorance.

“Wizkid fans are online disrespecting Fela again. Why do you always have to bring Fela into your trivial debates? The excessive enthusiasm of some fans has negatively impacted the music industry, causing rifts that prevent artists from collaborating.
“I believe Wizkid FC is one of the most uninformed fanbases out there. You need to change your behavior. Focus on your artist. Can’t you enjoy their music without making comparisons?
The reason you can’t enjoy your artist’s music without comparing it is that it doesn’t resonate with you spiritually. You might pretend to enjoy it, but deep down, you’re not fulfilled,” he stated.
