The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State has elected Mr. Sunday Omonakome as chairman alongside other members of the local government area executive committee.
Omonakome and the new executive members emerged on Saturday during the party’s congress held at the Isoko North Council secretariat in Ozoro.
The officers were elected through affirmation by delegates earlier chosen during the ward congresses across the 13 wards of the local government area.
Addressing party faithful at the congress, the Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Council, Godwin Ogorugba, called for unity among members, stressing that the APC in the area remains one family irrespective of differing interests.
He noted that democracy may not always satisfy everyone at all times but urged party members to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and collective progress.
According to him, the process had been concluded through a consensus arrangement, with lists duly signed by ward chairmen and secretaries and submitted to the appropriate authorities.
Ogorugba explained that the exercise was primarily for the accreditation of five delegates from each of the 13 wards and the affirmation of nominees already agreed upon at the ward level.

He emphasized that the congress was not meant for lengthy speeches but to formally ratify the consensus decisions reached by party stakeholders.
In an interview with journalists, the member representing Isoko North State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Bernard Odior, described the congress as peaceful and hitch-free.
He said all leaders in the local government agreed to hold the exercise at the council secretariat, describing it as a neutral and public venue.
Odior explained that offices were zoned to the various wards and filled through consensus, from the position of chairman down to ex-officio members.
“Each ward has five delegates representing them, and they all affirmed the candidates selected by consensus. The congress was free and fair,” he stated.
Odior also reaffirmed the party’s commitment in Isoko North to supporting President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Earlier, the outgoing Chairman of the party in Isoko North, Daniel Emebuno, expressed appreciation to party leaders and members for the successful conduct of the ward congresses.
He expressed optimism that the congress would be equally peaceful, noting that all 13 wards had voluntarily and consensually chosen their representatives, thereby eliminating any likelihood of crisis.
The congress was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as representatives of civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
With the emergence of the new executive led by Mr. Sunday Omonakome, party leaders expressed confidence that the APC in Isoko North would remain united and better positioned for future electoral engagements.
