The Irish government has presented Nigerian students with a valuable chance to pursue their educational goals without financial strain, offering an annual living allowance of €25,000 to support their expenses while studying in Ireland.

This commendable initiative is recognized as one of the most competitive and rewarding scholarship programs in Europe.

Managed by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation, and Science, it aligns with Ireland’s global educational objectives.

The scholarships are specifically aimed at students from outside the EU and EEA, with a focus on attracting a diverse array of talent from Africa, Asia, and beyond.

According to information shared via the YIEDEP news email channel on Tuesday, applicants can choose to apply for either a master’s by research program or a full doctoral degree, depending on their academic qualifications.

It noted that those applying for master’s programs will receive two years of complete funding, while Ph.D candidates will benefit from four years of full support.

This structured funding approach ensures that students can complete their studies without financial disruptions.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree for master’s programs or a master’s degree for Ph.D programs, although provisional certificates are also accepted.

Working professionals seeking to advance their education can apply without any age limitations.

Ireland’s top universities are involved in this scholarship program, contributing to its appeal, which attracts thousands of applications each year.

Notable institutions participating in the 2026 program include Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, University of Galway, and University of Limerick.

Other distinguished universities, such as Dublin City University, Maynooth University, University College Cork, and various technological universities, are also part of the initiative.

These institutions offer a wide variety of academic disciplines, giving applicants numerous options to select from.

In addition to major universities, specialized institutions like the Royal Irish Academy, Royal Irish Academy of Music, and RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences are included in the program.

The scholarship provides an annual stipend of €25,000 to help cover living expenses in Ireland.

Alongside the living allowance, students receive full tuition coverage of up to €5,750 per year, which includes non-EU fees.

Moreover, the scholarship allocates €3,250 annually for research expenses, which is a significant advantage for students involved in advanced projects.

It covers a broad spectrum of fields, including Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), as well as arts, humanities, and social sciences, making it accessible to students from diverse academic backgrounds.
