Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State on Saturday, pledged that his administration would continue to support women’s advancement in the state.
The governor who gave the assurance in his message, to mark the 2025 International Women’s Day, said he would encourage gender equality in accordance with Sustainable Development Goal 5, as well as creating more opportunities for women in his administration.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Nsa Gill said “globally, several women have continued to inspire hope, unity, and peace across diverse endeavors.
“Here in our dear state, I am continually inspired by great women who have proven themselves in their assigned responsibilities, either in the public or private sector.
“This year’s theme: Accelerate action, clearly underscores a great need for global leaders to urgently commit to actualizing gender equality, as well as empowering women and girls.

“For us in Cross River State, we will continue to push for women’s advancement, and support the rights of every girl -child to make it easier for more women to make positive advancements in their different fields of endeavor.
“As we join the world to celebrate women today, I also use this opportunity to call on all women to step forward, engage, and negotiate for opportunities to serve in more public offices.”
The governor specifically applauded his wife, Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, whom he said had through her various pet projects, had touched many less privileged individuals.
The governor maintained that his administration will continue to unbundle complex political spaces to make it easier for more women to participate in public governance.
International Women’s Day is marked every March 8, to support the cause of women’s advancement, and promote the rights of the girl- child across the world.
