Major League Soccer side Inter Miami CF has announced plans to name a stand at its new stadium in honour of Argentine football icon Lionel Messi.
The 38-year-old forward, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in football history, joined the club in 2023 following a glittering European career with FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
Since his arrival in the United States, Messi has made a historic impact at the Florida-based club, becoming Inter Miami’s all-time leading scorer with 82 goals and top assist provider with 53.
In a rare move, the club has chosen to honour him while he is still actively playing, with the tribute set to feature at their 26,700-capacity new venue, known as the Nu Stadium.
In a statement, the club highlighted the uniqueness of the gesture, noting that such recognitions are typically reserved for retired legends, but Messi’s influence is being celebrated in real time.
Inter Miami are scheduled to officially open the stadium with a fixture against Austin FC on April 4.

This marks the second time Messi has received such an honour, after Argentine side Newell’s Old Boys—where he began his football journey—named a stand after him in 2025.
An eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, Messi also led Argentina national football team to World Cup glory in 2022. He recently made MLS history by becoming the first player to win back-to-back Most Valuable Player awards.
His arrival at Inter Miami, co-owned by former England captain David Beckham, has significantly boosted the club’s global profile and contributed to multiple titles, including the Leagues Cup, Supporters’ Shield, and MLS Cup.
