Nine thousand secondary school students in Katsina state are being trained on the basic skills of school’s evacuation and security tips in times of terrorist attacks.
The training is to equip the students and prepare them for any eventuality that may arise in their respective schools.
The training is a stepdown of what the organisers had learnt from a larger group, and is organised by a non-governmental organisation, Zandam Area Development (ZEDA).
Collaborating with the NGO in the training exercise are several other groups, including We Girls Development Initiative, state ministry of education, UNICEF, and MS Ideas and Data.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Wednesday at Government Girls (Senior) Secondary School, Katsina; the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) MS Ideas and Data, Mustapha Shehu said the training is necessary following incessant attacks and abduction of school students in the state and country as a whole.

Shehu said with the frequent reports on abduction of students in schools in the country, there was need to do something about it to ensure the safety of students at all times.
He, therefore, said that the training would greatly assist in educating the students with requisite knowledge on how to escape with minimum harm and provide first aid treatment to their fellow students in terms of any eventuality of attack.
Coordinator of ZADA association, Amb Gidado Fafaru lamented that most schools in the state have relocated to the cities because of banditry attacks in their localities.
Farfaru, however, called on the state government to give necessary support so that the initiative can achieve target of ensuring safety of schools in the state.
