The President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, has assured football fans around the world that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be a massive celebration despite rising geopolitical tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

Speaking in a high-profile interview on March 9, 2026, Infantino described the upcoming tournament as a “total party,” expressing confidence that stadiums will be packed and fans from across the globe will gather to celebrate football during the historic competition.

The 2026 tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, and will mark the first edition of the World Cup expanded to 48 participating teams.

In an interview with Spanish sports outlet AS, Infantino brushed aside concerns that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could disrupt preparations for the tournament.

Some analysts have warned that tensions in the region could affect air travel routes and create visa complications for certain national teams and supporters.

Despite these worries, Infantino pointed to unprecedented global interest in the tournament.

According to him, more than 500 million ticket requests have already been recorded for approximately seven million available tickets, highlighting what he described as the extraordinary excitement surrounding the event.

“This will be fantastic, phenomenal — a total party,” Infantino said, stressing that the popularity of football and the scale of the tournament will overshadow geopolitical challenges.

Preparations for the 2026 World Cup have faced several logistical considerations, including travel arrangements and visa processes linked to the wider geopolitical climate.

The potential participation of Iran has also drawn attention amid tensions involving the country and Western allies.

However, FIFA and tournament organisers say they are working closely with national football associations and host governments to ensure smooth planning and coordination.

Officials added that infrastructure, security planning and operational logistics for the tournament remain on schedule, while global developments continue to be monitored closely to guarantee that the competition proceeds without disruption.

The 2026 World Cup is expected to be the largest in history, featuring more teams, more host cities, and a significantly expanded global audience.
