The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, on Tuesday formally inducted Prof. Rahmon Tella as the new Resident Electoral Commissioner for Oyo State.
The ceremony took place at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja and coincided with Prof. Tella’s redeployment, part of INEC’s ongoing efforts to enhance electoral administration nationwide.
Administering the oath, Prof. Amupitan described the occasion as “solemn and purposeful,” emphasizing the trust and responsibility inherent in the role of a REC.
“An occasion of an oath-taking is a solemn occasion. It calls one to duty,” Prof. Amupitan said.
“The integrity of our elections is non-negotiable. You must uphold the highest standards of professionalism in every action. Any compromise on our values or procedures will not be tolerated.”
He charged Prof. Tella with ensuring that voters in Oyo State are confident that their ballots will count, calling on him to serve as “a beacon of hope and democratic values.”

Prof. Tella, a professor of strategic management and public policy, currently serves as deputy dean of the Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences at Atiba University, Oyo.
He previously held REC positions in both Oyo and Ekiti States, representing Osun State, with his first term concluding in September 2025.
Responding to the induction, Prof. Tella expressed gratitude for the chairman’s guidance, pledging to align his leadership with INEC’s vision and to uphold the principles of discipline, integrity, and accountability in his service.
