Ahead of the commencement of campaigns for the 2023 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Imo State has restated its commitment to record landslide victory in the 2023 general elections with a call on all stakeholders to assist the party leadership to achieve the laudable project.

In a statement issued yesterday in Owerri, Collins Opuruzor, State Publicity Secretary of PDP stated that the resolution was reached at a crucial joint meeting of the State Working Committee, SWC, State Executive Committee (SEC), Elders Committee, candidates and leaders of the Party held at the weekend in Owerri, the State Capital, where the party declared that it would not rest in its oars until victory is achieved in the coming polls.

Speaking at the meeting, the State Chairman of the party, Engr. Charles Ugwuh unveiled the action plan which has been put in place to expand the democratic space within the party, energize the grassroots and record resounding victories across the 27 council areas of the State in the 2023 polls.

He enjoined the candidates to keep working in synergy with the electoral template of the party, which he described as the surest path to seamless victory.

The National Secretary of the Party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who was represented by his Principal Secretary, Dr Bruno Ekwelem, lauded the SWC for their giant strides and appealed to the stakeholders to put the unity of the Party above personal interests just as he cautioned against divisive utterances, actions and the unwholesome tendency to cast a slur on party leaders at all levels.

The stakeholders who took turns to express their determination to get to work immediately to unseat the All Progressives Congress, APC, government in the State regretted that Imo has been run aground by the Hope Uzodimma/APC administration.

The party chieftains resolved that all party stakeholders will work unanimously to weed out the APC from Imo and deliver all PDP candidates at all levels across the state in the coming elections.

The party leaders applauded the Engr. Charles Ugwuh-led SWC for the vision, dedication and uprightness that the SWC has brought to bear in steering the affairs of the Party and in surmounting the challenges peculiar to a party in opposition.

They noted that PDP is founded on strong democratic principles; on the strength of which the Party cannot limit, hamper or restrict the political aspirations of its members.

The stakeholders resolved that members who are interested in seeking the nomination of the Party for any elective office are at liberty to do so, provided such aspirations are pursued in line with decency, Party Constitution and best practices in party politics.

The party observed that the APC regime in Imo State which, it alleged, has grown jittery about the forthcoming elections, is now resorting to all manner of shenanigans, including INEC voters register compromise, to rig the elections.

“Another menu in the terrified APC’s buffet of atrocities is the sponsorship of fake news and tales of imaginary wars against our Party.

“To this end, Stakeholders resolved to intensify efforts towards mobilizing Imo citizens for free, fair and credible elections, whilst also vehemently resisting the wicked plot by the APC to manipulate the voters register in the State,” Opuruzor said.

The party enjoined INEC to ensure that the vexed issue of voters register fraud is expeditiously resolved, and the tainted register thoroughly cleaned up, in order to restore public confidence in the electoral system.
