Ninety suspected illegal immigrants accused of engaging in cybercrimes aimed at defrauding innocent Nigerians have been arrested in Rivers State.
The state Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) made the arrests in collaboration with other security agencies during a coordinated raid on the illegal immigrants hideouts within the state.
The state Comptroller of Immigration, Yi Abdulmajeed, who made this known in a statement, noted that a total of 94 individuals were detained during the operation.

He asserted that after profiling, it was revealed that 85 of the suspects are Cameroonians, five are Chadians, and four are Nigerians. Among the 94 detainees, 74 are males and 20 are females.
Abdulmajeed disclosed that the 90 foreign suspects entered Nigeria through unauthorized border points and failed to present residence permits or valid travel documents when interrogated.
In addition, two Nigerians, who allegedly provided accommodation to the suspects, were also arrested. The landlords, both from Rivers State are believed to have facilitated the illegal stay of the foreign nationals.
The comptroller further stated that the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, has directed the immediate repatriation of the foreigners to their respective countries.
The immigration service has reiterated its commitment to securing the nation’s borders and curbing illegal activities perpetrated by undocumented immigrants.
