Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has said he has yet to determine who will succeed him at the expiration of his tenure in May 2027.

Gov. Zulum made the declaration during an All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House, Maiduguri.

The governor told party leaders and elected officials that his administration remains focused on improving security and delivering developmental projects across the state, rather than engaging in succession politics.

He emphasised the need for fairness, transparency, and justice in the conduct of the forthcoming APC congresses, noting that credible processes are critical to party unity and long-term success.

Gov. Zulum also called for inclusiveness in party leadership, urging that new and credible members be allowed to emerge through democratic means to strengthen the party at the grassroots.

The governor dismissed speculations that he had endorsed any aspirant ahead of future elections, stressing that he had not anointed anyone for any elective position.

“I have no preferred candidate for any position, and I do not know who will succeed me. I have committed the choice of leaders to Almighty Allah and the democratic will of party members and the people of Borno State,” Gov. Zulum said.

At the meeting, the governor announced the establishment of two committees aimed at strengthening party cohesion.

A 10-member committee, chaired by former Nigerian Ambassador to China, Baba Jidda, was inaugurated to oversee the APC e-registration and reconciliation efforts, with representatives drawn from the state’s three senatorial districts.
