The 110th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) has commenced and will run from May 27, 2022, to June 11, 2022.
The conference will be held in hybrid format with delegates attending personally in Geneva, Switzerland and virtually in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, sanitary and travel restrictions as well as renovation work at the United Nations (UN) and International Labour Organisation (ILO) offices.
In a statement made available to The Trumpet, the ILC said the inaugural sitting will be held fully virtually, while the various committees will begin their work on May 30, 2022, just as plenary sittings will be held between June 6 and June 11, 2022.
The high-level world of work summit will take place on 10 June, while the conference will close on 11 June.
Among the items on the agenda is a possible amendment of the ILO declaration on fundamental principles and rights at the workplace which will include safe and healthy working conditions.
An initial discussion on an apprenticeship will take place with a view to possibly creating a new international labour standard.

Committees will also discuss decent work, the social solidarity economy and the strategic objective of employment as part of the follow-up mechanism of the ILO declaration on social justice for fair globalisation.
The conference will be followed up by a meeting of the ILO governing body on June 13, during which it will elect its officers to run its affairs between 2022 and 2023.
It would be recalled that ILC, sometimes referred to as the World Parliament of Labour, is the largest international gathering dedicated to working issues and is usually attended by representatives of governments, employers, and workers from the 187 ILO member countries.
