The Inspector General of Police has approved the immediate demobilisation of officers attached to the No. 24 Police Mobile Force Presidential Escort at the State House, Abuja, directing their redeployment to various state commands across the country. The move follows an internal police signal dated December 16, 2025, which instructed senior formations to effect the transfers without delay.
The signal, referenced CH:5660/WEL/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.96 and issued by the Department of Finance and Administration at Force Headquarters, Abuja, was addressed to the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, Assistant Inspectors General overseeing the Police Mobile Force and zonal commands, as well as Commissioners of Police nationwide. It confirmed that the affected officers had been providing close protection at the Presidential Villa and were now to return to their parent commands.
According to the directive, officers redeployed from Abuja were posted to several states, including Adamawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Bayelsa, Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, the Federal Capital Territory, Gombe and others. Thirteen officers were sent to Adamawa, eighteen to Kebbi and fourteen to Kaduna. Seven officers were posted to Anambra, two to Akwa Ibom and twelve to Bauchi, while Benue received nine officers and Borno eight. Bayelsa had four officers redeployed to it, Cross River received one, and Ebonyi got nine officers. Ekiti received ten officers and Enugu nine, while twenty two officers were posted to the FCT and twelve to Gombe.

Further postings covered other commands across the federation. Eight officers were redeployed to Imo, sixteen each to Jigawa, Kogi, Kano and Kwara, twenty one to Katsina, fifteen to Nasarawa, twenty to Niger, six each to Ondo and Osun, nineteen to Plateau, eighteen to Sokoto, nineteen to Taraba and fifteen to Yobe. At the zonal level, Zone One in Kano received two officers, Zone Three in Yola one officer, and Zone Seven in Abuja six officers.
The police signal was also copied to the Chief Personal Security Officer to the President, the Commander of No. 24 PMF Abuja, and several police formations nationwide, including commands in Abakaliki, Ado Ekiti, Awka, Bauchi, Calabar, Damaturu, Enugu, Gombe, Jos, Kano, Katsina, Makurdi, Maiduguri, Minna, Owerri, Sokoto, Uyo, Yola and Yenagoa, underscoring the scale of the redeployment.
The development follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive in November ordering the withdrawal of police officers from VIP escort and guard duties. The President had insisted that officers be redeployed to frontline policing to address rising insecurity across the country. Enforcement of the order has already begun, with special police teams monitoring compliance while civil defence personnel are deployed to fill gaps created by the withdrawal of police escorts.
The latest redeployment marks one of the most extensive internal movements within the Nigeria Police Force in recent times and signals a renewed push to return officers to core policing duties at the state and community levels.
