The Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has hailed the significant achievements of the Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi, crediting his efforts with uniting the Southeast behind President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement released Monday morning, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze, expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for appointing an Igbo leader, Senator David Umahi, to the critical role of Minister of Works. According to Isiguzoro, this historic appointment has not only boosted the pride of the Igbo community but also marked the dawn of a new partnership between the Southeast and the Federal Government.
Before Umahi’s swearing-in on August 21, 2023, concerns about the Southeast’s underrepresentation in key ministerial positions were widespread. However, Isiguzoro noted that President Tinubu’s strategic move to assign the crucial Works portfolio to an Igbo minister has been a transformative decision.
Umahi’s leadership in driving infrastructural development in the Southeast, particularly the construction and rehabilitation of federal highways, has rekindled a spirit of unity and cooperation between the region and the Federal Government.

“The Southeast’s long-standing grievances over the deplorable state of federal roads and infrastructure neglect are finally being addressed,” Isiguzoro stated. “Senator Umahi’s appointment as Minister of Works has demonstrated President Tinubu’s genuine commitment to the Southeast’s development and progress.”
Isiguzoro further praised Umahi’s transformative impact on the Ministry of Works, highlighting key projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Super Highway and the Sokoto-Lagos Super Highway. These projects, he said, are a testament to Umahi’s dedication to advancing Nigeria’s road networks and fostering economic growth.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo proudly recognizes the strides made by Senator Umahi in his ministerial role. His exceptional service has not only earned him the respect of the Igbo people but also solidified a stronger, more collaborative relationship between the Southeast and the Federal Government,” the statement read.
The group reaffirmed its appreciation to President Tinubu for this landmark appointment, acknowledging Senator Umahi’s pivotal role in securing Igbo support for the APC-led Federal Government. Ohanaeze Ndigbo also reiterated the Southeast’s commitment to working alongside President Tinubu to achieve a brighter, more prosperous future for Nigeria.
