Sokoto State governor and presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Aminu Tambuwal has advocated that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) deserves two ministerial slots in the federal executive cabinet The Trumpet gathered.

Tambuwal’s insistence was at the meeting held with PDP delegates from the FCT Thursday night in Abuja.

The aspirant said though getting a state status for the FCT might be a bit difficult because it is a matter of constitutional amendment which was defeated in the recent constitution amendment process, the FCT deserves to produce two ministers.

He said “I am not insisting that FCT should be a state but you appoint ministers, sometimes two from a state, what stood you from appointing a zonal Minister from the FCT because FCT is part of the North Central zone. So if you are appointing an FCT person as Minister to represent the zone, what is wrong with that?

“Because of the special nature of FCT, there should be a Mayor in the FCT. In major cities in the world London, California, they have majors.

“So I understand that the issues are, so what is important is for you to work with us on this campaign train. This is a project to beat in the PDP

Speaking on behalf of the FCT delegates, Hon. Sunday Dogo Zakka, Chairman of FCT PDP, pledged that the FCT will support the Sokoto governor.

He said “you have been there for the party we will continue to appreciate you because you have been there for us. You have been there for the party.

“The party must also be there for you. So we thank you and thank you for your interest. I pray that you will return safely. People of FCT are solidly behind you. We will not disappoint you.”

Hon. Dr Hassan Usman Sokoto, House of Representatives member, Abuja South cautioned on developments in the PDP.

The lawmaker said ” your Excellency sir the issues happening at our party today, not at the bottom level, not at the middle level but the top echelon need much to be desired because majority of us, don’t take decisions on our own, we look at our leaders and by the time this leader is speaking, going to the east, another leader is speaking going to the south and another leader is speaking going west, those who are followers become confused. We become worried and disturbed, where do we go?

“Nigerians will never forgive PDP if we allow this 2023 slip from our hands. And if Nigerians are crying that we betrayed them, that we let them down, those of us that will be talking on behalf of our people will continue to say that the leadership of our party, let us down.

Please, Your Excellency, the leaders must call themselves to order so that if consensus cannot be achieved, once we get to primary, once a level playing ground is given, whosoever emerges but it is our earnest prayer that you emerge but because I don’t know tomorrow but every day we are praying that you emerge but whosoever emerge, we hope that others will be able to join him and build this country.”
