The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has charged Deputy Superintendent Sani Yakubu, a senior officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), before the Kaduna State High Court over alleged misappropriation of ₦1.7 million.

According to court documents, Yakubu faces three counts bordering on criminal breach of trust and dishonest misappropriation of funds in violation of Sections 294, 300, and 86 of the Penal Code Law of Kaduna State.

In a statement released on Friday, ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare confirmed that the accused appeared before Justice Isiaka of High Court 12 on November 4, 2025. The Commission alleged that Yakubu, while performing his official duties, diverted ₦1,720,000 entrusted to him on behalf of Mrs. Vennica Idoko.

Prosecutors said the money was meant to be received in an official capacity, but the officer instead converted it for personal use, breaching the trust placed in him as a public servant.

In a dramatic moment during the proceedings, Yakubu reportedly broke down in tears and pleaded guilty to all three charges, admitting that he misused the funds.

Justice Isiaka adjourned the matter to November 12, 2025, for sentencing, signaling that the convicted officer may face significant punishment under the state’s penal laws.

Bakare reaffirmed the ICPC’s resolve to uphold accountability and integrity in the public sector, warning that the Commission will continue to prosecute officers who abuse their positions for personal enrichment. “Any public servant found guilty of misusing public trust will face the full weight of the law,” he said.
