The alumni of Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan, have called for the immediate release of their principal, Mr. Abdullah Fasasi, who is currently in police custody over the Ibadan funfair tragedy that claimed 35 lives.
The National President of the Islamic High School Old Students Association, Mr. Bayo Busari, issued a statement urging authorities to grant Mr. Fasasi administrative bail. While expressing support for the ongoing police investigation, Busari refuted claims that the principal approved the use of the school’s premises for the ill-fated event.
Busari clarified that the Oyo State Ministry of Education had authorized Agidigbo FM to use the school’s facility for events as far back as 2023. He revealed that Agidigbo FM notified Mr. Fasasi of their intentions a few days before the funfair. The principal reportedly advised them to obtain approval from the ministry and make the necessary payment to use the facility.
