A Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on Thursday ordered the remand of ten suspects over a chilling case of alleged armed robbery and murder that has sent shockwaves through the city. The suspects are; Sheriff Lawal, 27; Lawal Bashit, 23; Oyewale Sodiq, 30; Akeem Ogunyemi, 41; Kazeem Afolayan, 40; Akeem Raji, 37; Olabode Hammed, 25; Yusuf Lekan, 26; Ayomide John, 23; and Samuel Okezie, 32, are facing serious charges that include conspiracy, armed robbery, and murder.
Presiding Magistrate Mrs. Gladys Oladele declined to take their pleas, noting that her court lacked jurisdiction over such capital offences. She ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and further action. The court adjourned the matter until July 21, 2025, pending DPP recommendations.

According to police prosecutor, Sergeant Samuel Owolabi, the incident took place on the night of May 15, around 9:30 p.m., at Oak Hotel near the Moniya area in Ibadan. The suspects allegedly stormed the premises armed with sticks and cutlasses, robbing one Shuaibu Adam of a substantial amount of money. The attack allegedly escalated into fatal violence, resulting in the death of 23-year-old Abdul Isah, who was reportedly beaten to death. Shuaibu Adam was also seriously injured during the assault.
The crimes reportedly committed by the accused individuals are said to contravene the criminal code of Oyo State, involving grave offenses that could attract the most severe penalties under Nigerian law. The case has gripped the attention of residents in Ibadan, raising fresh concerns over rising insecurity and violent crimes in the state.
