- Promises not to disappoint Obi, members
Ambassador Yohanna Margif has vowed not to relinquish the mandate given to him by members of the Labour Parry (LP) as its standard bearer of the party in the 2023 governorship election in Plateau State.
He said he was firmly in the race and will pursue his ambition to a logical conclusion of winning the gubernatorial election.
He therefore called on LP members to defend the mandate given to him by disregarding
anyone else parading himself as the new candidate of the party.
Amb. Margif said plans to subvert his mandate by secretary substituting his name with another person has been revealed but vowed to resist such move by jelously guiding the governorship ticket of the Labour Parry.
He addressed the press on Saturday in Jos. In a statement later, he claimed he has been threatened to withdraw from the contest.
“Margif, therefore said “my attention has been drawn to a purported and illegal primary election by some disgruntled political elements who disguised themselves as members of Labour Party in Plateau State, I wish to state clearly that I am the only and authentic governorship candidate of Labour Party in Plateau.
“You recall that a primary election of the Labour Party was conducted on the 9 June 2022 at Retnan Hotel and Event Centre, Bukuru where I emerged the candidate of the party and certificate of return was subsequently presented to me by the National Chairman of the Party to affirm my candidature as the standard bearer of the party for 2023 election.

“Since then, I have taken deliberate steps in collaboration with other members of the party in Plateau and at the National Secretariat to put the party in better perspective to win the 2023 election. I must say without contradiction that my effort since I joined the Labour Party has endeared several people from different political parties to the Labour Party.
“I wish to state clearly that I have not in any way contemplated withdrawing from the 2023 governorship election in Plateau State and I will not withdraw from the race. I am in the contest to win the election and give Plateau people good governance that will enthrone development.”
He added that he is not ready to trade the governorship ticket of the his custody because it is not for sale and that he is in the race to win.
“I am not in the contest to withdraw, and the ticket of Labour Party in Plateau State is not for sale, therefore those who are clamouring for the ticket and misleading gullible Plateau people and Nigerians that I have withdrawn from the race should desist forthwith.”.
The candidate said by succumbing to such delve move to have him surrender the ticket, he will be disappointing his numerous supporters who expressed confidence in electing him at the primary.
Also, he said he will be disappointing state and national leadership of the Labour Party, particularly, it’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
