Humanitarian Affairs Ministry bids farewell to Yusuf Tanko Sununu, commends legacy of service

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has formally bid farewell to its outgoing Minister of State, Yusuf Tanko Sununu, in a ceremony marked by tributes and reflections on his contributions to public service.

The event, held on Thursday, brought together senior government officials, agency heads, and ministry staff who gathered to honour Sununu’s tenure, widely described as impactful and service-driven.

Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Minister, the Permanent Secretary, Olubunmi Olusanya, described Sununu as a pillar of strength whose leadership helped advance humanitarian programmes and strengthen institutional frameworks within the ministry.

Olusanya noted that his tenure combined administrative discipline with a strong focus on human welfare, leaving a lasting impression on both the ministry and vulnerable Nigerians.

Stakeholders and agency representatives also paid tribute. The Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Tijjani Aliyu, commended Sununu’s leadership and commitment to inter-agency collaboration.

Representatives from the National Senior Citizens Centre and the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities highlighted his inclusive leadership and advocacy for vulnerable groups.

The National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, Badamasi Lawal, described him as a dependable leader who strengthened programme delivery and cooperation among agencies.

Staff members across different levels of the ministry also shared commendations, noting his open leadership style, accessibility, and ability to inspire confidence within the workforce.

In his farewell remarks, Sununu expressed gratitude to the ministry’s leadership and staff for their support, attributing his achievements to faith, humility, and a commitment to service.

He urged staff to remain united and dedicated, stressing that effective leadership is rooted in integrity and selfless service.

The ministry’s management and staff concluded the ceremony by appreciating his contributions and wishing him success in his future endeavours.
