How truck kills community Secretary in Delta

Tragedy struck the oil-rich Iwhrekan community in Ughelli South local government area of Delta State, on Saturday, September 3, as a truck loaded with electricity poles was involved in an accident that killed the community Secretary, Comrade Efeturi Omoberaye.

It was gathered that the late Efeturi Omoberaye, on that fateful day, was directing the truck that brought some electric concrete poles to the community while it was reversing and, in the process, the truck mistakenly hit a fence close to where the victim was standing, and both the wall and a pillar fell on him shattering his body apart.

A source in the community, Mr. Monday Nurhierume told newsmen that the incident happened at about 3:00 pm on the said date, disclosing that, the late Efeturi was supervising the erection and installation of electric poles in a new layout in the community when the tragedy happened.

He added that it was in the process of controlling the driver of the truck, that the driver lost control and rammed into a fence close to the area the electric pole was to be erected.

The deceased who never foresaw such an occurrence was taken unaware as the fence fell on him and tore his body apart.

Mr. Monday said, though the deceased was immediately rushed to the Central Hospital in Ughelli, he was confirmed dead at the emergency unit.

He described the death of Efeturi as a tragedy to the entire community.

According to him, the late leader was a respectful and humble young man.

“We have lost a great soul at a prime age, and it has brought pains and sorrow to the entire community,” he stated.

The death of the Secretary who is survived by an aged father, mother, wife, and three little kids, has thrown his family and the entire community into deep mourning as torrents of tears flow from sympathizers alike.

As at on Thursday morning, the wife of the deceased, his family members, and the entire community was still in a sad mood as the atmosphere exhume a sort of quietness that replicate that of a cemetery.

The late Efeturi, 36 years, was described as a humble, honest, and gentle man who always went out of his ways for the good of others, and it was in one of such acts he met his untimely death.
