The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that initial access will be through USSD codes. According to an official update from JAMB, candidates can check their results using either *55019# or *66019#, with full results expected to be uploaded later on the Board’s website for printing.
JAMB confirmed this information on Monday, May 5, via its official X (formerly Twitter) page, while responding to candidate inquiries. The board explained that this phased result release is part of its post-examination protocols, which involve detailed analyses before full online publication. The 2025 UTME commenced nationwide on April 24 and concluded on May 5, spanning over 784 computer-based test (CBT) centres across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
As of the latest update, only 420,415 out of 1,955,059 candidates who took the exam scored above 200—a figure that has triggered widespread concern across the country. The result highlights ongoing challenges within Nigeria’s educational sector and has sparked renewed debate over the quality of learning and the preparedness of students for tertiary education.

Education stakeholders have weighed in on the trend, with prominent career coach and academic advocate, Dipo Awojide, linking the decline in performance to lifestyle habits, a growing disinterest in academics, and the influence of social media narratives such as the “school na scam” mentality. He emphasized that unless there is a cultural shift in how education is perceived, the nation risks producing a generation ill-equipped for the demands of the future workforce.
As JAMB prepares to fully release the results online, the nation watches closely, not just to see scores, but to reflect on the deeper questions these outcomes pose about the state of Nigeria’s education system.
