The Delta State Police Command has rescued a two-month-old baby boy who was allegedly sold by his mother to a pastor in Agbarho, Delta State, after swift and coordinated intervention by security operatives.
The incident, which was initially reported as a case of child abduction, was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the Executive Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Security, Engr. Emmanuel Udoka Chika-dibia.
According to him, the Divisional Police Officer of Ekpan Division, CSP Joseph Labe Esq., immediately mobilised operatives to track down the missing baby across Uvwie and Warri upon receiving the distress report.
However, suspicion arose during preliminary interactions with the child’s mother, as her behaviour and explanations reportedly did not add up. This prompted suggestions that her husband should independently verify her claims about the disappearance of the baby.
Chika-dibia said the matter took a dramatic twist when the husband escorted his wife to take an oath to prove her innocence, during which she allegedly confessed to selling the two-month-old baby to a pastor in Agbarho.
Following the confession, the couple was taken to the police station, where the DPO ensured the woman’s safety and immediately activated further investigative steps. The mother subsequently led operatives to a church in Agbarho, where the baby was recovered unharmed.

“As a result of the operation, the pastor and his wife were arrested, while the baby boy was successfully rescued,” Chika-dibia said.
He added that the Delta State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the incident to uncover all those involved and the circumstances surrounding the alleged sale of the child.
The governor’s aide also commended the President General of the Agbarho community for his timely intervention and cooperation, noting that community support played a key role in the success of the operation.
Chika-dibia assured that the police would provide further updates as investigations continue.
