Rivers State politics has taken a dramatic turn as Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to the embattled Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has made explosive claims that he was offered a staggering N5 billion to facilitate his principal’s impeachment.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Ehie revealed that he possesses concrete evidence of the bribery attempt, securely stored on his phone. “I have documented everything,” he declared. “In early October 2023, individuals approached me with an offer of N5 billion to orchestrate the impeachment. I have printed copies of the details and distributed them as a safeguard in case there are attempts to tarnish my reputation.”
At the time of the alleged bribery, Ehie was the Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly. His statement comes amid swirling allegations that he orchestrated a bombing at the assembly complex on October 30, 2023. The accusations, made by former Rivers State Head of Service George Nwaeke, claim that Governor Fubara personally instructed Ehie to execute the attack and provided him with a bag of money to fund the operation.
Dismissing these allegations as politically motivated fabrications, Ehie stated emphatically, “I had no part in the destruction of the Rivers Assembly. Like many others, I woke up to the shocking news of the bombing on October 30, 2023.”

In response to Nwaeke’s claims, Ehie has directed his legal team to file a criminal libel suit against him. He further alleged that on the day of Nwaeke’s resignation as Head of Service, the former official sought financial assistance from him—raising serious questions about his credibility.
The political climate in Rivers State has grown increasingly volatile following Governor Fubara’s fallout with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This power struggle has deepened divisions and heightened tensions in the state’s political landscape, keeping residents on edge as the crisis unfolds.
As allegations and counter-allegations continue to rock the state, all eyes remain on Rivers’ political gladiators, with the fate of Governor Fubara and his administration hanging in the balance.
