The House of Representatives has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mr. Elijah Olaluyi, a respected member of the House Press Corps, who died at the age of 62 following a brief illness.
Olaluyi, a veteran photojournalist with New Telegraph, was well-regarded for his dedicated coverage of the Green Chamber until his death late Thursday.
The House convey its condolences in a statement posted on its official social media handle, X.
In a heartfelt reaction to the news, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, paid tribute to Olaluyi’s legacy, highlighting the invaluable contributions he made to the media and the House of Representatives. “His presence and work will be sorely missed,” Tajudeen remarked, emphasizing the impact of Olaluyi’s professional career.
The Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, also expressed his condolences, praising Olaluyi’s decency and unwavering commitment to journalistic ethics. “He was a photographer of exceptional skill, guided by the highest standards of his profession,” Kalu said in his statement.

Olaluyi’s colleagues at New Telegraph and within the House of Representatives Press Corps (HoRPC) were equally devastated by the news. His work as a photojournalist covering legislative activities earned him the respect of his peers and those he photographed.
The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has joined in mourning Olaluyi, remembering him as a man who upheld the dignity of his craft and represented the very best of photojournalism.
The House of Representatives has extended prayers for the peaceful repose of Olaluyi’s soul, while offering comfort and strength to his grieving family, friends, colleagues, and the broader media community.
