“With new trends in information and communication technology (ICT), journalists must continue to learn, unlearn, and relearn to remain relevant and effective,” the Speaker stated.
Reaffirming the House’s commitment to press freedom, he highlighted legislative efforts aimed at protecting journalists and enhancing media capacity. He also underscored the 10th Assembly’s dedication to openness in governance through its Legislative Agenda on Open Parliament, which promotes public access to legislative activities and digital engagement.
The House further emphasized the need for ethical journalism and self-regulation to combat misinformation and sensationalism, warning that fake news poses a threat to national stability. It called for greater collaboration between the media and government to uphold truth, accountability, and public trust.
The statement concluded with a message of goodwill to the NUJ leadership and members, wishing them continued success in their profession.
