The people of Tsekelewu (also known as Polobubo) Bloc Communities in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State accused oil giant Chevron Nigeria Limited of neglect and have issued a 14 -day for the oil company to address their grievances or face peaceful protests.
A statement by the leaders of the community who did not want their name in print said that Chevron drills for oil from two major areas, Opuekeba and Olero fields, located in Tsekelewu community.
But the community leaders claim that instead of the Tsekelewu community benefiting from the oil company’s presence in its domain, the community has been marginalized and treated unfairly.

The community leaders stressed that despite years of the community peacefully cooperating with Chevron, the community has been denied employment opportunities, excluded from the award of contracts and shut out of community development discussions.
They further alleged that Chevron continues to ignore capable local contractors in favour of outsiders and middlemen, which has led to growing anger and mistrust, especially among the youths of the community.
