A quiet neighbourhood in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, was thrown into shock in the early hours of Thursday, January 8, 2026, after a 20-year-old man allegedly stabbed his elder brother to death while he slept.
The suspect, identified as Aliyu Haman, is accused of killing his brother, Umaru Haman, at their family residence along Poly Road, near Adaigbo Filling Station. The attack reportedly occurred around 3:20 a.m., when the victim was fast asleep.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday, the Delta State Police Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the deceased’s body has been deposited at Odua Mortuary in Ogwashi-Uku for autopsy, while investigations continue.
Edafe disclosed that a distress call was received by the Ogwashi-Uku Division at about 7:31 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of detectives to the scene. The suspect was arrested shortly after, and the weapon allegedly used in the killing was recovered.

According to the police, Aliyu Haman is a herder and a suspected drug user. He was apprehended following a swift response by officers of the Ogwashi-Uku Division under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Israel Okoyomon.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, described the killing as tragic and deeply disturbing. He assured residents that the command remains committed to combating violent crime through intelligence driven and proactive policing.
“The protection of lives and property remains our top priority. We will ensure that justice is served in this case,” Adesola said.
The police command also urged residents of the state to stay alert and report suspicious movements, violent behaviour, or drug related activities to the nearest police station, stressing that timely information from the public is crucial to preventing crimes and maintaining security across Delta State.
