Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has hailed the construction of a five-star Hilton Hotel in Asaba as a landmark development that signals growing investor confidence in the state’s economy.

The governor, who inspected the project site on Friday alongside the hotel’s proprietor, Chief Joseph Ukeji, Chairman of J.I. Ejison Group, and Technical Manager, Mr. Daniel Marais, described the arrival of an international hospitality giant like Hilton as a major milestone in Delta’s tourism and investment drive.

“When the owner of this hotel approached me and said he was bringing a five-star hotel to Asaba, I asked what brand. He said Hilton. I said, ‘Ah, Hilton?’ That means something big is coming,” Governor Oborevwori remarked, expressing delight at both the quality and pace of construction.

According to him, the state government has already provided road infrastructure to support the project, a move he said was part of efforts to make Delta the preferred destination for private sector investments. He emphasized that Delta has consistently delivered strong returns to investors, stressing that the decision of Ukeji to commit billions of naira to the project was proof of the state’s economic viability.

“If someone can come from across the Niger and invest billions here, it means there is value. There is nobody who has come to invest in Delta State who hasn’t seen a return. If that wasn’t the case, they wouldn’t be here,” the governor stated.

The Hilton Hotel project, expected to be completed within nine months, could be ready even earlier, according to Oborevwori. “From what I have seen today, if they put in more effort, in six or seven months this hotel can be ready. And I will be here to inaugurate it,” he assured.

He attributed Delta’s rising profile as an investment hub to the peace and security in the state, noting that Asaba has increasingly become attractive to investors from Lagos and other parts of the country. “If there’s no peace in Delta, there will be no investment. People are moving here from Lagos to invest. Many from across the Niger own property here because Asaba is safe,” he said.

Governor Oborevwori also highlighted other ongoing infrastructural projects, including the soon-to-begin Ugbolu/Okpanam Road, the completed first phase of Oko Road, and the awarded Nnebisi Road to Abraka Junction project. He further listed the Uromi Junction flyover in Agbor and the Otovwodo flyover in Ughelli as part of the administration’s “Renewed Hope for More” agenda.

Accompanied by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, Oborevwori said the government will continue to partner with the private sector to expand opportunities in tourism, hospitality, and commerce.
