In a shocking confession that has gripped Delta State, two 20-year-old suspects, Ekene and his friend Stanley, have admitted to killing a woman during a failed attempt to steal her motorcycle. The suspects were paraded by the Delta State Police on Tuesday at the State Police Headquarters in Asaba, with Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, providing details on the tragic incident.
Ekene, overwhelmed by guilt, revealed that he confessed to his mother upon returning home from the crime scene in Oliogo community, Ndokwa West Local Government Area. According to Ekene, the pair had come across the woman while she was resting and eating on her farm.
“When we saw her on the farm, my friend took off his shirt and attempted to strangle her with it,” Ekene recalled, describing how the situation took a dark turn. “As she was being strangled, she recognized my friend and managed to say his nickname, ‘Aboy.’ At that moment, my friend took a cutlass and struck her on the head.”

Ekene detailed that he felt a surge of guilt as he witnessed the woman’s last moments. Despite frantically searching for her motorcycle key, they couldn’t find it and eventually fled the scene. Troubled by the crime, Ekene returned home and told his mother everything, who urged him to report to local vigilantes. “My mother told me to tell the vigilante team, and they took us to the police,” he explained.
Stanley, the second suspect, claimed that they only intended to steal the motorcycle, not harm anyone. “We didn’t mean to kill her,” he said, expressing remorse for the incident.
Police spokesperson Mr. Bright Edafe confirmed that both suspects would be charged with murder and robbery, bringing a tragic end to what began as an attempted theft. The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns over youth violence and crime in Delta communities.
